We are proud to announce that our colleagues Jussi Nikki, Tuukka Martikainen, Olli Paavola, Kari Lehtomaa and Antti Ryysy – also known as Heads’n Tails Team – have won Future City Challenge 2018, organized by IBM, Digita and Etteplan. Heads’n Tails team members are fresh Sofigators as their company Headstart joined forces with Sofigate in January 2018.

FCC is the first nationwide competition in Finland to highlight innovative solutions and applications to make everyday life in cities easier. The cities involved in the competition were Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Oulu, Jyväskylä and Tampere. Each city will provided the competing teams with real-life challenges.

Heads’n Tails proposed a solution for the City of Espoo. The idea of the “Schools into shape” solution is to get schools into shape and ensure a healthy indoor air environment for schools and kindergartens.

With this solution, Heads’n Tails won every single category in the competition they possibly could: the best solution in the whole competition, the best solution for the City of Espoo challenge and the audience’s favourite solution.

“We can also assume that learning outcomes will improve due to the better quality of life provided by healthy indoor air. Taxpayers will save on real-estate maintenance costs and health services, when problems can be rectified in good time, before they escalate,” says Tuukka Martikainen of the Heads’n Tails Team.

According to the competition jury, the solution was an excellent fit with the requirements. It will benefit city residents, has commercial potential, ingenuity, and applies the technologies provided. Heads’n Tails’ solution could help to solve the current, widespread problems with indoor air by providing an easy and versatile way to measure it.
