Sofigate to build a freelance ecosystem of 200–300 experts within a year to fuel growth
Finnish companies are being called on to grow and to ensure they have the expertise needed to achieve it. With its Business Technology Village community, Sofigate connects businesses with top-tier freelance professionals to accelerate growth and lead change.
This year, the business technology company Sofigate is developing a network of 200–300 entrepreneurs and professionals to take on assignments in its customer projects. The Business Technology Village is an ecosystem that brings together experts with an entrepreneurial mindset, following the principles of the platform economy. Previously a small-scale initiative, the community is now aiming for strong growth.
One thing that sets Sofigate’s community apart from similar networks is that it is currently the only one offering this model to board-level professionals.
“We offer top experts a flexible way to work as entrepreneurs, light entrepreneurs or freelancers using an invoiving platform. The Business Technology Village is open to professionals ranging from niche specialists to executive-level advisors and retired operational leaders. We equally welcome early-career experts who are just starting out on their professional paths,” says Petra Luntiala, who leads the Village at Sofigate.
“In many of our assignments, we need specific expertise that neither we nor the client necessarily have in-house. Through our curated community, we can offer that exact capability, for just the time it is needed.”
During 2025, the community will expand to other Nordic countries as well. Sweden and Denmark will be the first in line early this autumn.
“The Business Technology Village is part of Sofigate’s strategic growth. We are looking for both strategic consultants with strong technology or business skills, and hands-on professionals such as developers,” Luntiala explains.
Flexible opportunities and free training for villagers
In addition to assignments, Sofigate offers villagers continuous training and free access to the Business Technology Standard (BTS) course. Open assignments are exclusively available on the internal platform, where village members can also network and collaborate with one another.
“You can work as much or as little as you like, whenever it suits you. Flexibility and freedom of choice are especially important for experienced professionals who want to work more independently or on a lighter schedule, while still challenging themselves with meaningful projects. In our community, they can express interest in client work that truly aligns with their expertise and interests,” says Luntiala.
“We are committed to developing the skills of our villagers just as we are to those of our employees. AI, technology, and the business built around them are evolving at a speed we have never seen before. We encourage our villagers to seize these opportunities boldly. When they grow, Sofigate grows too.”
New ways of working are the key to a productivity leap
Behind the Village is Sofigate’s drive to accelerate the productivity leap that companies urgently need and are well positioned to achieve.
In a recent market study, Sofigate explored how organisations are leveraging AI. It revealed that while three out of four respondents believe AI will boost productivity in the next few years, only six percent have successfully transformed their business with it. The study included qualitative interviews with 35 senior leaders from top or upper management.
“When companies invest in technology but productivity doesn’t improve, the reason is often – at least in part – a lack of experienced professionals to drive the change. These experts may not be available in-house, or organisations might hesitate to commit to them in an uncertain economic climate. Still, the need for a productivity leap is real, and solutions are now being sought even at the level of central government,” says Luntiala.
She refers to the Kasvuriihi initiative, led by CEO Risto Murto and published earlier this spring. Commissioned by Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, the initiative explored ways to grow Finland’s economy and improve business competitiveness.
“At the launch of the report, one message stood out: what truly matters is how Finland’s working-age population grows and what we can achieve with those pairs of hands. We believe that a leap in productivity calls for new ways of working in expert roles. The greatest impact comes when today’s skills can be shared and borrowed across ecosystems, as flexibly as possible,” says Luntiala.
